The Bible is the greatest book in all the world—and what better way to introduce little ones to its treasures than through the stories of the people who fill its pages?

Originally published by Benziger Brothers in 1931, The Bible Story is the first in a series of three textbooks by Rev. George Johnson, Rev. Jerome D. Hannan, and Sister M. Dominica, O.S.U. While the companion volumes, Bible History and The Story of the Church, were written for intermediate and upper grades respectively, this charming little book was designed especially for younger children.

Rather than presenting Biblical events as a succession of facts to be memorized, the authors place the characters themselves at the center of the narrative. Children come to know Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and the other great figures of the Old Testament, discovering how God prepared the world for the coming of its Redeemer. The New Testament then brings them through the life of Our Lord, from His Birth and public ministry to His Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension.

Written in simple, engaging language while preserving the phraseology of Scripture wherever possible, the stories are intended to awaken a child's love for the Bible as well as familiarity with its contents. Study questions and suggested activities for reinforcing the lessons are gathered at the back of the book, allowing the narrative itself to remain uninterrupted.

And perhaps best of all, dozens of beautiful full-color illustrations bring these sacred stories vividly to life, helping young readers picture the people and events of salvation history and remember them long after the book is closed.
