A Child's True Story of Jesus is more than just a coloring book—the lessons and activities found within help young children learn their basic prayers and the Mysteries of the Rosary, all within the context of the Gospels and the Mass.
First published in 1928, the book was created according to the principle of “learning by doing.” Children hear each lesson, use the accompanying picture to retell it in their own words, and reinforce what they have learned through coloring, cutting, matching and pasting activities.
The original book provided pictures and captions, but left the teacher to supply the lessons. For our newly edited edition, we reconstructed the intended method and supplied the missing material, drawing upon what was provided in Book Two and other works by Sister Mary Ambrose and Father Aloysius J. Heeg, S.J. We also added prayer activities and the Glorious Mysteries to complete the Rosary.
Beginning with the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be, the prayer activities gradually introduce children to other simple prayers for different occasions throughout the day. In this way, they learn that there are many ways of talking with God—and by making prayer a habit, they can bring Him more closely into their daily lives.
