This series of nine graded readers introduces children to a greater appreciation of art, each at an age-appropriate level. For each color masterpiece presented, the child learns something of the story behind the picture and the artist who created it, as well as notes on the use of color, line, and light, and how the composition helps to tell the story the artist intended. Many of the works provide some context of the culture or geography they represent, bringing students to a greater understanding of these differences. Musical selections are even suggested to supplement the mood of the artwork.

These books are a high-quality facsimile of the originals, except for the artwork, which we have replaced with larger, clearer and more vibrant reproductions to allow for better visibility of the details described in the text.

**Note to Parents: We chose to reproduce this series because it comes highly recommended by its users past and present, and because it is an extension of a Catholic art curriculum from the 1930s which we are currently in the process of restoring.  Those who know us as a publisher of Catholic books should be aware that this series was not originally produced by a Catholic publisher, and thus it does not have an imprimatur.  The religious context of some of the artworks, ranging from Ancient Greek gods to Native American spirituality, is presented without any bias toward Christian belief; however, works presenting Christian themes are spoken of with devotion. Based on our research, it was widely used in American classrooms for well over a decade, it currently forms part of a Charlotte Mason curriculum, and we felt that the wholesomeness of the series continues to recommend it strongly to families.
