Just in time for Lent...
Since the cataclysmic changes wrought upon our world at the beginning of 2020, there have been so many issues that demand attention, that it has been extremely challenging to keep producing new and fun projects. We do have several cooking on the back burner, but they are progressing slowly…
This past spring I attended a mini homeschool conference at the home of an intrepid homeschooling family (which was totally brilliant!) and there I found a set of framed Stations of the Cross for sale. I immediately fell in love with these Stations, which have such bold and colorful images, and I knew immediately what I wanted to do with them.
When my kids were still young, we would often pray the Stations of the Cross as a family during Lent. The little booklet we had was so small that it was hard for all the kids to be able to see the images, and it was hard to keep their attention. We didn't exactly have a set of the Stations that we could hang on the wall, nor did we have sufficient wall space to hang them. How I wished at the time to have had a nice big picture book with all the Stations!
For years I have been searching for just the right images for such a book. I have often found some that were pretty nice, but none that were quite what I was looking for. Finally, after years of searching, I had found them!
So with the help of the fabulous Julie Streeter, who runs the St Martha's Guild at St John Cantius Church, we not only got these images cleaned up and ready, she actually made a font from the original lettering so that we could use it for the titles on each page.
After having waited 7 months for our latest print run of Treasure and Tradition, we were afraid we would need to have these printed digitally instead of using a standard offset printer in order to have them in hand in time for Lent. But the original Stations had beautiful gold ink for the halos, and that is something that can't be done with current digital printing technology. It seemed such a shame not to be able to reproduce that... So again Julie came to the rescue and found a way to manually add some bling to those halos so that they almost look as though they were printed with gold ink! Did I mention she's fabulous?
This is one of those projects I have been wanting to do for such a long time, so I am really excited about this book and I hope your families will love it as much as I do!
