The Alpha and Omega—from A to Z!
Catholic Nursery Rhymes takes the simplest of childhood lessons—the ABCs—and uses it to tell the greatest of all stories: the life of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
A is for Angel, B is for Bethlehem, C is for Cave... and letter by letter, Sister Mary Gertrude carries little ones from the Annunciation and Nativity through the childhood and public life of Jesus, His Passion and Death, and His glorious Resurrection and Ascension. Each page pairs an easy-to-remember rhyme with a charming color illustration, making the story especially inviting for young children.
And there is a lovely purpose behind it all. Near the end comes Y for “You, for whom all this was done”—a gentle reminder that the wonderful story they have just followed is the story of a Savior who came for them.
Originally published by Benziger Brothers in 1925, this delightful little book is equally suited to reading aloud, learning favorite verses by heart, or simply poring over the pictures. For our edition, we carefully recolored the original two-color illustrations, preserving their delightful vintage character while allowing their details to shine.
